About Corie McGraw-Abel

Corie Abel’s family history in Islamorada runs deep. Her ancestors moved from the Bahamas to the Florida Keys in the mid-1800s to help construct the historic Alligator Lighthouse. Seven generations later, Corie proudly continues her family’s legacy as a lifelong resident of Islamorada. Her deep roots and extensive knowledge make her a trusted and respected local resource.

 

As Executive Assistant to Commissioner Holly Merrill Raschein, Corie provides vital support for the operations of Monroe County’s District 5, helping address community needs, coordinate outreach, and strengthen relationships across the Florida Keys. Her experience in local government has given her a deep understanding of the area’s policies, development processes, and the importance of preserving the Keys’ unique character and quality of life.

 

Corie’s leadership extends beyond public service. She also serves on the Florida Keys Board of Realtors®, where she will represent her peers as 2026 President. Her active involvement reflects her commitment to advancing professionalism, collaboration, and growth within the local real estate community.

 

Corie’s husband, Terry Abel, serves as the Fire Chief for the Village of Islamorada with more than 30 years of dedication and experience. Under his leadership, the department has strengthened emergency response capabilities, enhanced firefighter training programs, and deepened partnerships with neighboring agencies throughout Monroe County. Together, Corie and Terry exemplify a shared devotion to service, leadership, and community that defines life in the Florida Keys. Together, they are raising two daughters who have attended local schools from preschool through high school—continuing the Abel family’s longstanding tradition of community involvement and service.
