There’s no better way to welcome mahi season in the Florida Keys than with one of the community’s most meaningful traditions — the Nick Sheahan Dolphin Rodeo.
Each year, this tournament brings together locals, anglers, and businesses for more than just a weekend on the water. It’s a chance to rally around a great cause, celebrate the start of offshore fishing season, and connect with the community that makes the Keys so special.
This year, John El-Koury, owner of Coastal Realty of the Florida Keys, spent both days competing in the tournament. Despite some rough offshore conditions, the fishing didn’t disappoint.
John landed a 16.2 lb mahi, earning a 7th place finish, along with several quality fish in the 10–15 lb range — a strong sign that mahi season is officially underway in the Upper Keys.
The Start of Something Special
For many in the Keys, this tournament marks the unofficial kickoff to summer fishing. The return of mahi offshore brings a renewed energy — early mornings at the dock, lines in the water, and the anticipation of what might be just beyond the next weed line.
And this year is already shaping up to be a great one.
“The mahi are running” isn’t just a saying — it’s a signal. A signal that it’s time to get back out there.
Fishing for a Cause
What makes the Nick Sheahan Dolphin Rodeo truly stand out is its purpose. Beyond the competition, it’s about giving back and honoring a meaningful cause that continues to bring people together year after year.
From sponsors to anglers to volunteers, the level of local support is something special. It’s a reminder of what makes the Keys community so unique — people showing up, supporting one another, and creating lasting traditions.
At Coastal Realty of the Florida Keys, being part of that is something we’re incredibly proud of.
Looking Ahead
As the season heats up, we’re excited for more days on the water, more fresh catches, and more opportunities to celebrate everything that makes life in the Florida Keys so unforgettable.
Because here, it’s not just about fishing — it’s about community, connection, and making memories along the way.
